ARTIST: Bramante, Davide
Intro Biography Exhibitions & Press Works CommentsBramante, Davide
At first sight the young Sicilian photographer seems to share numerous objectives of the Futurists: the movement and the permeation of its overlapped images have all the dynamic energy that we find, for example, in Boccioni. Yet, despite this and the use that Bramante does of a technology even dreamt not by the Futurists, his awareness of the action of the memory, even of the nostalgia, it is completely different from their philosophy that was, exactly, futurist (which, by now it possesses the whole pathos of the ideologies of the past avant-garde).
Bramante says of his work: 'My way to photograph is identical to my way to remember, to think, to dream, to hope, everything happens for temporal and spatial overlaps.' In other words, its job treats so much of the past and of the present how much of the future, and its simultaneous visions are the total recreation of a place and a society more than an utopian idea of as these they should be. Samples are its photos that belong to a series, initiated in 1998, entitled My Own Rave. As in so many portraits devoted to the most disparate cities of the world that have crossed and then recreated in his photos, it contains a whole society, with all of hher visible aspects in the same moment. As the artist says: 'For me these images are the exact photo of the contemporary society'. Well I am also the exact photo of the artist and his personal history, 'Her stratifications and the veilings that you find above every image it brings back me to the history of my earth and my people, we are some Arabs, Norman, Byzantine, Spanish.' Bramante is the eternity Mediterranean vagabond as Ulisse or as the Jewishes or also the Irishmen themselves: to house everywhere yet never in house.
